Weather Around the World

Introduction:

What is the weather like where you are now?  Is it the same everywhere?

Task:

In this activity you will investigate the temperatures of cities from around the world.

Procedure:

  1. Print 4 copies of of this graph for your group.

  2. Go to the National Weather Survey (http://www.nws.noaa.gov/) web site to find any place in the world or AccuWeather (http://www.accuweather.com/weatherf/index_corp) to find any place in the United States.

  3. Pick 4 cities of your choice, find and record the temperatures from a five day forecast.

  4. Then make a graph for each city using the graphing worksheets.

Conclusion:

Now answer the following about each city on the back of the graph you used to chart the average temperatures for each city.

a. What is the average five day temperature for each city?

1.  to find the average add all temperatures for a city and divide by 5

b. What is the range for the temperature in each city?

1. to find the temperature range for a city,    subtract the lowest temperature for the week from the highest

c. Using the average temperatures, which city will be the  hottest in the next     five days?  The coolest?

d. If you were going to travel to each city, what type of clothes should you     pack? (shorts, jacket, winter coat, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt…)
